Thanks to our collaboration with the Hostel La Tortuga, part of Hostelling International and “Red Canarias de Albergues de Juventud”, Surf Life Tenerife is able to offer surfcamp packages including accomodation with surf lessons in one unique solution.
You will be hosted in a typical Canarian villa located in a really nice residential area in Playa Fañabé, just 10 minutes walking from the beach of El Duque, one of the most beautiful ones in the South of Tenerife. The surfcamp is just a few minutes driving from the nice fisherman village of La Caleta, with a marvellous bay where to go snorkelling and a trekking path which leads to the hidden beach of Diego Hernandez, the only natural white sandy beach in the South of Tenerife.
Despite being located in a quiet residential area, the surfcamp is really close to supermarkets and also bars and restaurants, with very accessible prices.
The surfcamp is organized into 2 different adjacent villas. Both villas are featured by a garden, a terrace and a swimming pool, which makes them the best place to relax before and after the surf session. Due to the COVID-19 hygiene regulation, we temporarily suspended the ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet breakfast.
Anyway, for any meals, each villa has a fully equipped kitchen with free american and italian coffee and teas for our guests.

We love having guests around and organizing social moments and parties where everybody is able to enjoy their stay with us! Every Wednesday night we organize a generous and variegated BBQ, with lots of choice also for vegans and vegetarians.
Right after the BBQ, you will be free to join us for a drink at a really chilly flamenco bar, with live music. For dance lovers, the hostel is located just 5 minutes walking from the famous disco club called “Achamán” – P.S. Remember to save some energy for surfing!

We usually organize dinners at local places, Tapas Bars and Burger cafes.
Because surfing is not just sharing waves but also sharing good food and loud laughs!

On lesson days, we pick you up with our van and take you directly to our school in Playa de Las Américas. We get changed there and then walk directly to our main surf spot which is located 100 meters from the school. If our main spot does not work, we will walk 5 more minutes to go to the other side of Playa de Las Américas, which hosts 3 more ideal spots for beginners and intermediates. If there are no waves at all in Playa de Las Américas, we will load all boards on the van and head to a different spot in the South. Every surf lesson usually lasts 2 hours. There is a first part of theory and techniques of 20/30 minutes and then we spend at least 1 hour and 30/45 minutes in the water. We have surfboards of different kinds and we work with small groups in order to offer customised training to our students (maximum 6 persons per instructor). With beginners, our instructors never get in the water with a board but always wearing flippers, in order to be able to provide our students with proper physical help by pushing them into the waves and helping them get back to the line up when needed. Surfing any time here in Tenerife is not possible, especially in Playa de Las Américas. The conditions – and safety – strongly depend on the tide level, which changes every day. We can’t go surfing when the tide is too high or too low. We always need to get the moment of the tide drop – if you want to have more information about it, you can have a look at one of my last articles on the school blog at the last section titled How do tide levels influence the wave generation?. So what we do is fix the lesson time every day so that we go surfing at the best possible time, ensuring the best waves and the best safety conditions! At the end of the lesson our instructors team will drive you back to the hostel where you will be able to enjoy the sun and warm weather, doing some yoga or going to the beach close by. Time to take it slow!

Not interested in staying at a hostel but still want to join a surf camp? No problem! We offer transfer service in the area between Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos.
You can arrange your own accommodation and still enjoy surf lessons with us. Whether you’re staying in Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, or nearby areas, we’ll pick you up and take you to our surf school, in front of our surf spot. Enjoy the freedom to choose where you stay while experiencing the thrill of our surf camp.

FAQ
HOW FAR IS THE SURF CAMP FROM THE SURF SPOT?
The hostel is located in Playa Fañabe, 15 minutes driving from our surf school in Playa de Las Américas. On every lesson day, we pick you up from the hostel at the scheduled time and take you to the school with our van. After the lesson, we take you back to the hostel.
CAN I RENT THE EQUIPMENT AFTER THE LESSON?
Equipment rental outside of lesson times is not recommended due to the tides. In our homespot surfing is ideal during mid-tide so we set our lessons based on that. This means that before and after the lessons, the tide is either too high or low, which is not ideal/safe for surfing. In addition, considering that we take you back to the hostel after every lesson, it would be more convenient for you to take advantage of the free ride back to the hostel and then come back to our surf school later (or earlier) that day if we have another lesson planned. We always recommend checking with us if the equipment rental is possible in any case, as it depends on the ocean conditions. Equipment rental is always included in our lesson prices, but it comes at an additional fee when booked separately.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A PACKAGE FOR LESS OR MORE THAN 7 NIGHTS?
Yes, it is! Our packages usually start from 4 nights and 3 surf lessons and can be extended for longer than 7 nights! Contact us for specific quotes.
HOW MANY SURF LESSONS WILL I BE ABLE TO JOIN IN ONE DAY?
Our surfcamp packages include 1 surf session of 2 hours per day, because, for the tides, it is usually possible for us to plan 1 group slot daily. Usually, in 7-night packages, we include 1 day off throughout the stay. If you’re interested in having more than 1 session on a day, it may possible to offer you a private 1:1 session at the other timeslot (if available).
Anyway, surfing is a challenging activity, especially for beginners! One surf lesson per day is more than enough to make yourself desire a good rest!
AT WHAT TIME ARE THE SURF LESSONS?
The time of our lessons changes every day depending on the tides. They are generally held between 8am and 7pm, at the best time for surfing at our spot. It is not possible to select the time of your lessons for each day, as the ocean dictates it. We will send you your final surf schedule 2 days before your arrival.
For your reference: consider that the overall experience between the pick-up from the hostel and the ride back after the lesson is around 4 hours.
I AM A SOLO TRAVELLER. CAN I BOOK THE DOUBLE/TWIN ROOM AND SHARE IT WITH ANOTHER GUEST AT THE HOSTEL?
The cheapest option for solo travellers is the dormitory option. The double/twin room options look cheaper because the prices quoted are per person. If you want to book the double/twin room as a solo traveller, it will need to be booked as a private room (at a higher price). It won’t be possible to book this option as a solo and share it with another guest, unless you visit with a fellow-traveller.
